Black tea and watermelon – refreshing and cool

Always try to go for organic teas, pure and natural, like Darjeeling tea from Semper Tea. The other reason why we love making our own iced tea instead of buying them of the shelf is the sugar content. Many iced teas from the supermarket have lots of sugar and by making your own, you are in control of the content and amount that goes into your delicious drink.

Here we go, this is what you need for the watermelon iced tea. This makes 5-6 servings.

Puree the watermelon in a blender until smooth and then strain into a pitcher. Cover and refrigerate until cold. Bring the water to a boil and pour over the tea bags, add the honey and let it steep for 5 minutes. Add the fresh mint leaves, cover and let cool. Discard the mint leaves, add the tea to the watermelon juice and pour over ice into glasses and serve with mint sprigs. If you would like to add watermelon chunks and mint leaves to your cool drink…feel free.

For those who would like it a bit sweeter, add more honey or make your own sugar syrup for serving.
To make the sugar syrup simply dissolve sugar into hot water in a ratio of 1 tbsp sugar to 2 tbsp water.
